Fraps Makes Mic Audio Sound Bad

Discussion in 'FRAPS Help Requests' started by JohnLCS, Apr 23, 2013.

  1. When I try to record my mic with fraps it sounds very bad, but when I use audacity or skype it sounds very good. I use a Turtle Beach Z2 Earforce and they plug into the 3.5mm jack, and do not show up as a individual mic, but in the Realtek HD Audio tab, where you select between 3.5mm jack or the internal jack.

    Please Help, John

When you say bad do you mean low quality or loud static and popping?

It sounds to me like your mic is getting recorded thru 2 different paths, such as "Stereo Mix" + "External Input." This is bad because you get phase cancellation - a "hollow" sound. Solution: mute your mic in "Stereo Mix."

  5. So how do I fix it

Find out what 2 paths the mic is using and mute one of them.

  7. How would I find out what 2 paths they are using

    With your audio control panel....

Let someone who has a Gateway on Windows 7 answer you then. I only wanted to point out the basic idea of audio cancellation. Which I have done. It was only a suggestion. I hope it helps you somehow.
